Yoga Classes
Rawls Whittlesey, Certified Yoga Teacher (RYT200), teaches yoga classes that are focused on improved health and well-being. In addition to traditional yoga poses, she incorporates body awareness, breathing techniques, guided imagery, meditation and relaxation to make for a rich yoga practice that helps relieve stress and keeps the body strong, flexible and mobile. Mondays, 7:30 p.m. - Yin/Yang Yoga
Rawls teaches Yin/Yang Yoga at Ancient of Days Yoga Center, in Newnan, Ga. on Mondays at 7:30 p.m.. Yin Yoga is the cooling, quiet, meditative compliment to the more vigorous, yang vinyasa practice. It works to stretch the deep connective tissues of the body that tend to act like “shrink-wrap” around our joints as we age. Yin yoga improves range of motion and releases energetic blockages. It focuses primarily on the hips, pelvis and spine, and the postures are held anywhere from three to five minutes. We follow this yin practice with a flowing yang Vinyasa practice and end with 15 minutes of relaxing guided imagery and meditation. Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. - Chair Yoga for Seniors
(begins Sept 7, 2010)
Rawls teaches Chair Yoga for Seniors at the Tyrone Recreation Center on Tuesdays at 11:00. This is a very gentle yoga practice done while seated in a chair, with some standing, that is perfect for Seniors and others recovering from injuries or disabilities. The class includes breathing and body awareness techniques and stretching exercises that help improve balance, flexibility and mobility. No prior yoga experience required. $5 per class. Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. - Yoga for Stress Relief
Rawls teaches Yoga for Stress Relief at Ancient of Days Yoga Center, in Newnan, Ga. on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.. Yoga for Stress Relief is a flowing style of yoga with poses linked together and synchronized with the breath where the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. In addition to this movement through a variety of yoga asanas, this class incorporates body awareness, breath awareness, guided imagery and meditation. Suitable for all levels. Thursdays, 5:20 p.m. - Yoga for Wellness
Rawls teaches Yoga for Wellness at the Tyrone Recreation Department, in Tyrone, Ga. on Thursdays at 5:20 p.m.. This yoga class is taught in a gentle Vinyasa style that is suitable for all experience levels. In addition to traditional yoga poses, it also incorporates body awareness, breathing exercises, guided imagery, meditation and relaxation to make for a rich yoga practice that helps relieve stress and keeps the body strong, flexible and mobile. Private Yoga Instruction
Private instruction is beneficial for:
- Beginners who want to learn the basics before attending group classes,
- Individuals who want specialized instruction based on their specific condition,
- Those who's schedule makes it difficult to attend a scheduled group class.
Rawls is available for private yoga instruction by appointment taught at your home or office. She will develop personalized practice sessions based on an initial assessment, your individual needs and your schedule. Rawls can also be available for travel should you desire private yoga instruction on your business trip or vacation. Rates vary based on number of sessions and location.
